Keeley Compressor Plus

The Keeley Compressor is the most popular boutique compressor in the world. With well over 52,000 compressors built in Keeley's shop we have an expert understanding of compression, limiting, and sustain. Keeley knows what it takes to make an instrument sound like it’s been professionally recorded. They know how to make your guitar jump from the mix. They know how to make it fun and easy to play. Keeley Compression is how. The Keeley Compressor Plus is the first true advancement in Keeley's 2 and 4 knob compressor line. The new features are simple and straight forward. Now there is a simple Release Switch that is tuned for single coils or humbuckers. No more wondering if you have the attack or release set right. Your humbuckers will have all the attack and punch that they should. Keeley's team designed a gorgeous sounding Tone Control which emphasizes the most sensitive harmonics that can be lost in compression. The Compressor Plus now sports a Blend Control that retains the peaks in your playing and, more importantly, the proper phasing of your guitar signal. The Keeley Compressor Plus offers the same gorgeous push of frequencies and sweetening of tone that the old comps gave you, now with the flexibility to easily handle any instrument.

The Keeley Compressor Plus is a compressor with an expander/sustainer. Not only does it act as a regular compressor, limiting the peaks in your playing, it adds more and more gain as notes fade out. Now you have sustain. Nothing worse than a note or a bend that has died before its time. The Keeley Compressor Plus adds just the right amount of sustain and expressive bloom to your notes.

The new Release Switch on the Keeley Compressor Plus is designed to make it very easy to transition between single coil and humbucker guitars. Humbuckers have more average energy than single coils which can cause compressors to stay in “compression mode” for a lot longer. When this happens, any series of notes you play will sound dull. With the quick release of the new Compressor Plus, your humbuckers remain true sounding, and each note retains dynamic attack and definition.

The Tone Control is Keeley's own design taken from analog delays and other vintage effects. Those effects used an emphasis circuit to recover treble and highs after they went through the BBD or other analog delay lines. We took that circuit and made it into a full fledged tone control! We have found that it is the perfect way to gently add back in those highs lost in the compression process.

The Blend Control is a way of getting the peaks to come through while having sustain at the same time. So if you want sustain more than peak-limiting, this style of Manhattan Compression is for you! Keep all the peaks and transients with the Blend and Tone Controls while adding sustain on the back end. Heaven!

This compressor isn’t just for heavy funk or chicken pickin’ anymore. The new Compressor Plus is for players wanting a smooth, subtle wash from their guitar. Remove just the right amount of peaks for an ambient layer and then blend in the right amount of treble for a nice shimmer to your guitar. Use with your favorite fuzz to create a wall of tone like you’ve only heard on records. Looping has never been easier than with this compressor. Consider it an essential tool when creating loops that sound well-balanced. Forget it all and use the Compressor Plus for the best amp boost you’ve heard. Nothing pushes an amp better than the Keeley Compressor Plus.

The new Keeley Compressor Plus is the result of Keeley specializing in compressors for over 15 years. Chief Engineer and founder Robert Keeley said, “Compression was the first effect I found that was hard to make sound good off the shelf, so I set out to create the best sounding compression effect possible.” They have it down to a science but still treat it like art. Since it is at the core of what we do, we can offer it for an incredible price now. The Keeley Compressor Plus is completely made in the United States. Come by Keeley's shop and watch the magic happen. They didn’t just start making compressors to look good alongside co-branded coffee mugs and shirts and hats. They’ve worked with and listened to the pros who have had the the original compressor on their boards for 10 to 15 years and found out what it would take to keep it on their boards for another 10, 20, or 30 years…. Add the Compressor Plus to your rig, you and your guitar will be singing for days.

This is a limited edition run with special vintage-style graphic!

"Racial Capitalism"
Format: Paperback
Cedric J. Robinson’s Black Marxism is first a history of Black people appearing in historical texts as far back as Herodotus (c. 484 – c. 425 BCE) in ancient Greece, and second a history of “the collisions of the Black and white ‘races’ beginning in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.” Robinson’s thesis connects the evolution of capitalism to its roots in racism (racialism) understood in broad terms to comprise the subjugation of one class/group/nation/race by another (the Irish by the English in the nineteenth century, for example). He uses the term “racial capitalism” to express this process—the necessity of opposing classes for the function of capitalism. As a result, “racialism,” he says, “would inevitably permeate the social structures emergent from capitalism.” Keynes attributed the slow change in the “standard of life of the average man” until the beginning of the eighteenth century to “the remarkable absence of important technical improvements and to the failure of capital to accumulate.” Capital is accumulated, in Marx’s view, through the accretion of “surplus labor” which is the extra time a worker “must add to the working time necessary for his own maintenance . . . in order to produce the means of subsistence for the owners of the means of production.” Robinson ties capitalism’s early exploitation of surplus labor to slave labor and the slave trade noting, “historically, slavery was a critical foundation for capitalism.” Robinson traces the forced transport of Black people from Africa (the diaspora) to Europe, as well as Central, South, and North America as a foundation of early capitalism (and slavery as its form of “primitive accumulation” of capital). In his discussions of slavery, Robinson stresses the sense of the enslaved people with respect to their captors in terms of the slaves’ resistance, hostility, and defiance of the masters—their “Black radicalism.” As Robinson’s text approaches the twentieth century and the influence of Marx, his focus narrows to the significance and character of specific Black leaders including W. E. B. Du Bois, C. L. R. James, and Richard Wright and their respective connections to Marxism’s diverse interpretations. Marxism, says Robinson, “has proven insufficiently radical to expose and root out the racialist order that contaminates its analytic and philosophic applications or to come to effective terms with the implications of its own class origins.”

Any socialist movement must centrally address racial liberation to succeed.
Format: Kindle
Robinson's masterwork powerfully demonstrates how the Black radical tradition emerged from the shared experiences of resistance to racial capitalism and colonialism. By tracing this intellectual and political lineage through figures like W.E.B. Du Bois, C.L.R. James, and Richard Wright, Robinson shows that Black liberation struggles were not simply an offshoot of European socialism, but represented their own distinctive radical tradition. A key insight is how Black resistance movements developed theoretical frameworks and modes of struggle that went beyond traditional Marxist analysis. Where European Marxism focused primarily on class conflict within industrial capitalism, Black radical thinkers recognized that racial oppression was fundamental to how capitalism developed globally through colonialism and slavery. This more comprehensive analysis helped explain why racial liberation had to be central to any meaningful socialist transformation in the United States. The book compellingly argues that Black liberation movements - from slave rebellions to civil rights to Black Power - represented some of the most significant challenges to American capitalism. These struggles exposed how racial oppression was not incidental but essential to American economic and social relations. By fighting for racial justice, these movements struck at the foundations of the capitalist order itself. Robinson's updated edition strengthens these arguments by extending the analysis into more recent decades. He examines how Black radical politics evolved in response to neoliberalism and continued racial inequalities, while maintaining connections to earlier traditions of resistance. For readers interested in both racial justice and socialist politics, this book remains invaluable for understanding how these struggles are fundamentally interconnected. It demonstrates why any socialist movement in the United States must centrally address racial liberation to succeed in transforming society.

A Classic That Requires Time
Format: Paperback
This book is for a particular type of reader. Robinson’s writing is beautiful, but not easy. The ideas are complex. It takes effort to get through. But, if you are interested in Black politics, and looking for fresh thinking, I recommend it highly. The funny thing is, the title is misleading. It is more about Europe and the formation of capitalism, and what Robinson defines as The Black Radical Tradition. Marx is critiqued but not rejected, and held uneasily at arm’s length. As Angela Davis wrote, this book needs to be read more than once. It’s like an album or a movie that is so unique and rich that you know you probably missed something on the first go-round. I expect to return to it many years to come.
